Welcome to UKUVUNA!
UKUVUNA is an internationally recognised organisation dedicated to supporting the implementation of optimised sustainable projects within communities in Southern Africa through the promotion of permaculture. It was established in 2005 in response to the demand of Southern African communities, both urban and rural, for sustainable livelihoods.
"Ukuvuna" is a Zulu word which means “abundant harvest”. This name highlights the result-driven objectives of our business and affirms our involvement with a multitude of organisations or learning institutes.
Our aim is to facilitate the establishment of self-managed permaculture nodes throughout Southern Africa by providing quality design, training, assistance and networking.
Through our design and training programmes and subsequent monitoring support, we assist communities and entrepreneurship towards the initiation and maintenance of permanent productive gardens and/or agricultural landscapes supplying food, energy, income and other essential services to communities while respecting the environment as a basis for sustainable lifestyles, self-help job creation and poverty alleviation that are needed for a full and swift socio-economic and ecological recovery.
We work both in urban and rural areas in support of projects that range from door size household garden to school gardens, individual farms, estates, cooperative projects and community land management projects.
Our clients include local governments, government departments and
agencies, NGOs, corporate organisations, and private individuals.
